Major Romanian Holidays Are Divine
Romanians adore holidays.
Here is the picture of major holidays in Romania. The Great Union
of 1918 was and still is the most sublime page of the Romanian history
and its greatness lies in the fact that the accomplishment of national
identity is not the work of a political figure or a government or
a party; it is the historical fact of the entire Romanian nation.
Therefore the 1st of December is the national day of Romania, in
the memory of those glorious times.
24th of December Christmas
One of the most beautiful holidays is Christmas, the celebration
of Lord Jesus Christs Birth. Christmas preparations begin
with the lent which lasts six weeks. On Christmas Eve you fast for
Jesus Mother. On the 20th of December, on the Ignatius day,
they sacrifice the pig and they cook the specific dishes for the
holiday. Each area of Romania has its own specific way of welcoming
and celebrating Christmas, but you see in any place the Christmas
tree as a very important ceremony element.
On Christmas Eve groups of children and youngsters
go singing carols from door to door following a ritual made of ceremonial
texts, magic formulas, dances and gestures. The host is always asked
if it is okay to go ahead with the singing and the answer is usually
a positive one.
Carols, the most common tradition for Romanians,
send health wishes, rich crops and the accomplishment of all wishes
in the New Year. One of the most appreciated songs is The
star a song that announces Lords Birth. On the same
day they set up the Christmas tree, they open Santas gifts
and they listen to carols. The two days of Christmas are celebrated
within the family.
Furthermore a major holiday in Romania is Easter.
Christ has resurrected and defeated death, for Him and for us. In
the new perspective of the Christian life we believe that we defeated
Death too through Jesus Resurrection, we die in order to revive
and we revive to live forever with Christ. Through suffering and
death we enjoy the revival; through revival we take joy and we triumph
in Christs triumph, as a triumph of our own. He died for us
and he triumphed for us. In His Death lies our salvation, in His
Revival lies our victory.
February The month of the hearts
February is universally known as the month of the lovers. What could
be sweeter than a special day dedicated to love, a day when you
confess your true love to your beloved person, your husband, brother
and mother?
The reason for celebrating love on this particular
day is that this is the day when Saint Valentine, the guardian of
lovers, was executed for glorifying love and young people.
These are only some major holidays in Romania
and they are still celebrated in a deep spiritual manner, as there
still are Romanians with tears in their eyes when they listen to
a carol or when they are in a church on Easter night
